King

The king is the most important piece on the board. Protecting your king is the main goal of the game.

Queen

The queen is the most powerful piece, being able to move in straight lines and diagonally across the board.

Rook

The rook moves in straight lines across rows and columns. It's the strongest in open spaces.

Bishop

The bishop moves diagonally across the board. Each bishop stays on the same color squares.

The knight moves in an Г-shape and can jump over other pieces. It's tricky to use but very powerful.

Pawn

The pawn moves forward one square and captures diagonally. Pawns are the foundation of the game.
